This ARI report is about the student Lillie who is in the 3rd grade and attends an elementary school in the state of Washington. Over three days in April of 2016 Lillie was given an Analytical Reading Inventory assessment which give a better understanding of her skills, capabilities, frustration levels, and her reading interests.
Lillie was given a Profile Interview and Interest Inventory to collect background information on her interest related to reading. In general Lillie enjoys reading, but mostly to herself. Lillie enjoys a variety of books and genres including Fiction, Non-Fiction, and books that are comedic. Lillie was assessed in level 3, 4, 5, and 6 for the narrative stories and level 3 in science and social studies. Also, Lillie was assessed in oral, silent, and listening readings. Lillie had a good understanding and predictions based on reading only the title. Lillie had a difficult time adding to her predictions, as she said she had nothing to add after reading the first two sentences. Lillie had multiple prior knowledge for each story, but in the science and social studies assessment, she could not recall or relate any prior knowledge to the text. Lillie’s had a few miscues in her oral reading assessment, she read confidently and accurately. Lillie maintained an average of 95% accuracy based on her miscues in the narrative and expository assessments. Lillie made a noticeable amount of substitution errors without self-correcting and often repeated herself. Many of Lillie’s substitution miscues were moderately similar in spelling and letter sound or sound symbol or Graphophonics, but many of Lillie’s words changed the meaning of the
