According to Crane M, “homelessness generally is associated with shortages of low-cost rented housing, unemployment, and poverty…” (Crane).Homelessness is the most extreme effect of poverty, and is the most crucial to be avoided, as it leads to an unproductive society. A booming economy requires a steady workforce, as well as a steady stream of consumers to buy the goods being produced. Homelessness negatively effects both of these requirements, because homeless citizens are not working, and do not have the money to consume any goods being produced. The only way to stop homelessness is to again look at poverty and its causes. The lack of jobs is the most crucial factor to consider, as it directly affects the increase of homelessness. As jobs are lost, relocated, or scaled back in these areas, many citizens are left with no place to work, and thus no way of making money.
