“I didn't know what to do or where to turn. Everyone was looking at me and laughing and I felt naked.” The story Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, is about a 37 year old man named Charlie Gordon who has low mental capability. Charlie’s teacher Miss Kinnian proposed he undergo an operation that can potentially triple his mental capability. Before the operation, he believes that his friends at the factory really are his friends, but later in the story he finds out different. Later in the story Charlie's “friends” get him intoxicated and make fun of the fact that he is different.
