The words White Lies are the most meaningful words in the poem by Natasha Trethewey because it is about a girl trying to fit in by lying and those false statements tend to identify “White people”. That’s why the author called the poem “White Lies.” White Lies actually means the little lies you tell but the lies the girl is stating aren’t little at all and the lies affect the girl’s life. This is very important because the girl denies her identity. During Natasha Trethewey's poem, there are many lies the main character states to her friends like, “ I could act like my homemade dresses came straight out the window of Maison Blanche.” (2nd paragraph) Maison Blanche is a cloth line that “White People” wear.
