Andre Johnson may be a sports superstar, but to the children of Houston, he's more than a superstar, he's a hero.
Andre Lamont Johnson holds more sports records than most people have clothes in their closet, and that's just in football. He was also a record-holding track and field athlete while in college.
Johnson attended the University of Miami where he is in the UM Sports Hall of Fame. During his time with the Hurricanes, he was a star receiver during their undefeated 2002 season and was named co-MVP of the Rose Bowl. He was then drafted as the 3d overall player in the NFL draft by the Houston Texans. During his tenure with the Texans, he set nearly every Texans receiving record (and still hold them). While with the Texans, Johnson started to work with the Harris County’s Child Protective Services and ensure that unprivileged children had a good Christmas. To them, Johnson was better than Santa Clause. Santa was in a story, but Johnson took them shopping.
In Texas, Johnson wore Jersey number 80. He decided that the children that were selected to participate in the shopping program with him would each get 80 seconds, one second for each number on his jersey, to pick out as many toys as they could as they raced around the aisles of Toys R Us. The younger children were aided by police officers who were also program volunteers.
This last year, Johnson was traded to the Indianapolis Colts. Even though his new team is not in Houston, his heart is and he was not about to let the Children of Houston be disappointed during Christmas. Even though he could not be in Houston this last weekend, his phone still reached
