WHO WAS ANDREW CARNEGIE?

Andrew Carnegie was an industrialist, and in his later life, a philanthropist. He was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, and came to America in 1848. Some of his early jobs were a telegraph operator and a telegraph messenger. He then worked as a secretary for the superintendent at the Pennsylvania Railroad, and after that, he founded the Keystone Bridge Company and then formed the Carnegie Steel, which he sold to J.P Morgan in 1901, and that made Carnegie the richest man in the world. After all that business, he became a philanthropist!

WHERE DID ANDREW CARNEGIE DO HIS MOST FAMOUS THING?
Andrew Carnegie is known for his philanthropy. He did most of his philanthropy in the East Coast of the U.S.A. Carnegie donated money to lots of libraries, around 1,690 in the U.S.A! He also donated money to many companies he founded, for example the Carnegie Mellon University and the Carnegie Institution for Science. He was a big philanthropist.

In between that time, he founded lots of businesses. He founded the Carnegie Institution and Carnegie Corporation. He founded about 23 organizations, including the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, Carnegie Corporation of New York, and the Carnegie Foundation. He donated a lot of money to libraries, founded many businesses, and donated over $350 million!

OTHER INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT ANDREW CARNEGIE
Andrew Carnegie is sometimes referred to as the Patron Saint of Libraries. He donated money to lots of libraries, over 1,600 in the U.S.A. He grew up knowing the importance of education and books. He was also called the Patron Saint of Libraries because he had the foresight to realize that with access to knowledge, anyone could become successful. He is still referred to as the Patron Saint of Libraries.
