Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 in South Carolina. His parents were immigrants from Ireland. His father died while his mother was pregnant with him. His family lived in poverty. Jackson received little education. Jackson’s eldest brother died in battle. He served in the Revolutionary War with his brother as a courier. One account of Jackson’s experience tells us about a time he was captured by the British. Andrew refused to clean the boots of a British officer. The officer slashed him leaving scars on his hand and head. Soon his mother and middle brother die of disease. Andrew Jackson is left as an orphan.
