Andrew Jackson is perhaps the most controversial president in United States history. The triumphs of his presidency allow him to be celebrated as The Great Democratizer, while the crises make some believe that he was a subpar president, even to this day. Jackson, of course, built his platform on the idea that he was indeed the Great Democratizer. His followers, the Jacksonian Democrats, believed that they were the upholders of the Constitution, democracy, individual liberty, and economic equality. However, based on primary sources from the time period, one can deduct that this view was only to persuade people to agree with them and make them feel better about themselves. It was not reflected in their decisions or in the opinions of the people.
