He made decisions that were not always favorable, but he believed he would be doing the most good for the country as a whole. One of the decisions was him ignoring the decision of the supreme court with the Worcester v. Supreme court where it was decided that the Cherokee Indians would keep their land and be unbothered by the Americans that lived around it. Despite that fact, president at the time Andrew Jackson made a decision by himself and ignored the ruling of the supreme court. These actions had very serious consequences for the Indians that were being removed. The removal was known as the Trail of Tears because of the harsh consequences and hardships they faced while being removed from their land. The signing of the Indian removal act led to many thinking of president Jackson as this one event, as the man who did the trail of tears. He did this only to increase the size of the united states. His actions gave acres of land to many American farmers, who would then be able to grow crops for the rest of the country. He was not doing this because he hated the Cherokee people but to benefit his country, he was looking out for his number one priority and making sure that the United States was growing as a nation. During his time he did many things, some of his actions may have been more favorable than others but they all remain a part of his presidency. One of his most memorable acts being the trail of tears. An action he took to benefit his country and expand its territory to parts of the west. A lesser known action of his was eliminating the national debt, he completely paid off all debts after only six years in office. Most of the actions that he took were to benefit the common man because Jackson was born without money and had to work his way to the top he believed himself to be a common man as well. He did away with the national bank system to put the power in the hands of the owners of the bank. This effectively took the control away from congress and the federal government as well. During his time as president, he took steps to give more people a say in the election of their next leader by getting rid of the land requirement for voters, which allowed much more people in the country to be able to vote. Actions like this made the country more of a democracy. He was shown to be able to effectively control the country by making the decision to force the south to pay the federal taxes during the nullification crisis.
