Researchers later found the platform. They dug out all the dirt surrounding it. The platform is still there today and called a fort. People go to the fort and play on it and look at it. Everyone has different theory’s on how the “fort” got there but the most common one is that it was going to be Turnbull’s mansion.
Turnbull had unrealistic dreams about what New Smyrna could develop and become. He dreamt of an uplifting working system of government to be able to show Great Britain that he accomplished his goal of a colony. Andrew wanted to be proud of his colony. Progress was made on the land and a lifestyle was built. The colonists still did not agree with the way they were treated by Andrew. Before he knew it, he was no longer allowed to be the ruler of his own colony. They impeached him and told him he could not remain the leader.
Later, he moved to Savannah, Georgia with his wife Maria and continued his doctor practice. The new Smyrna colony continued to thrive and show more continuous growth. New Smyrna is now a beautiful city with gorgeous weather and beaches. It has a population of 23,658 residents. It has many tourists visit every year. Schools, businesses, and lots of homes were built. Andrew Turnbull’s dreams at last became true.
