Others may argue that immigrants who went through Ellis Island faced more challenges than those traveling through Angel Island. When going through Ellis Island, many people had harder experiences than those going through Angel Island. “‘You know what? When you get over to Ellis Island they're going to be examining your eyes with a hook,’ and he says, ‘Don't let them do it because you know what? They did it to me, one eye fell in my pocket. Immigrants going through Angel Island struggled more than immigrants going through Ellis Island. Many of the immigrants going through Ellis Island had more positive than negative things to say about traveling there. “They give sandwiches, white bread with a piece of cheese and a piece of ham, wrap them up and put them in a little baggie and give to us and it tasted so good” (Paul Moschella). The immigrants who went through Ellis Island were treated better because they were fed nicer than those who went through Angel Island. The immigrants on Angel Island were fed significantly worse than those who were on Ellis Island. “We ate vegetables twice a day and some very rough rice, very hard to swallow. I was a growing boy and hungry” (Lester Tom Lee). This excerpt helps show that the immigrants on Angel Island were fed differently and substandard to those on Ellis Island. In Ellis Island, an interview states that an immigrant got to see her family. “Oh, it was so beautiful to see her” (Anna Zagar Klarich). Immigrants in Ellis Island seem to have a lot more happy and good experiences; for example, this excerpt shows that this immigrant gets to see her mother's family.
