Anglerfish and the downfall of the braves

Anglerfish were short-tempered with an inclination for shows of courage. He would never admit that he was not the most frightening, powerful monster in the deep sea. As a result, he would challenge beasts that were three times his size: eels and predators with teeth that looked just like blades and scaly skin that would nick whatever it touched. Anglerfish is a delicacy in the deep sea, renowned for having the most tender meat in the entire ocean. Its capture was similarly known for being an arduous task, but that only made the feast more appealing for predators: as if the meat would taste even better if the predator had fought for it. But still, he channeled all of that resentment into challenging his fate and living bravely despite the constraints of his life. He always used the same technique to prevail over his enemies. The first step was to turn on his light to attract them to him. Then, he made sure he was standing right before the rock. His predators would swim in fury, hungry for a treat, and right before they came close to him with their mouths wide open. At that moment, he would shut down his light and move to the side, resulting in the predators breaking their noses, their jaws or their teeth on the rock. Anglerfish was always victorious, but he was often too zealous in his venture to rise above his station. For instance, he would often use his skills to fend off not only predators, but anyone who dared swim down in what he considered his realm. He was indeed a vindictive fish with a penchant for showing his bravery through acts of violence. However, he was admired by the rest of the species, who demonstrated their love and deference to him daily.
