“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” (123) In the allegorical fable Animal Farm written by George Orwell, a group of farm animals in england wanted to free themselves from the humans whom they were slaves to, but once they were free and new leaders were chosen, greed, power, and corruption soon spread throughout the new farm. The animals couldn’t think for themselves. They were trapped under the power of corrupt leaders. The theme that is conveyed through the use of literary elements is that large masses of people will be blind to the cruel and selfish acts of their beloved dictator.

The animals rose up against their oppressive farmers and took over the farm, so that they could run the farm on their own. They hated the way they were being treated by humans, but in the end they end up exactly like the humans. You would expect the opposite, because the animals had lived under the power of cruel farmer Jones for so long. They knew what it meant to feel neglected and abused. They knew that this system was corrupt, but then why did they allow themselves slip back into those old ways? “they had come to a time when no one dared speak his mind, when fierce, growling dogs roamed everywhere, and when you had to watch your comrades torn to pieces after confessing to shocking crimes”.(87) Dramatic irony is irony that occurs when the meaning of a situation is understood by the audience or reader but not by the character in the story or play. In Animal Farm the reader knows what the amendments say, but because the animals don't know how to read, the pigs take advantage of their lack of knowledge, and use this to take over the farm. When Boxer is injured while working, and is being taken to the slaughter house, Squealer convinces the other animals that he was being taken to the hospital, but in reality, the side of the van says
