After decades within the tribes, Christianity began to spread. Meer glimpses into the past life of Animalism began to disappear. The Jesuits had come and gone, and it was the converted Algonquins that began to preach the teaching of Jesus Christ to those that have held onto some ties of Animalism18. New generations that were born into the community had little to no connection with their ancestors spirituality. With parents and/or grandparents that had adopted and conformed to Christian religious, the Algonquin children were taught that Jesus Christ was the only source of supernatural and spiritual power19. After generation and generation, Animalism in Algonquin tribes began to become extinct. No longer were humans and animals equals, Christianity taught that humans had entire control over the entire kingdom. This teaching can be seen in Genesis 1:1–31. God speaks to humanity and declares: Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. Now humanity has been chosen by God to be the chosen race. This particular teaching from the Bible contradicts the teaching of Animalism. No longer is the earth seen as the great provider, and the animal kingdom as a reciprocal relationship21. Over the short period of a century, the Algonquin society transformed creating an entirely new identity for themselves. Without the presence of the Europeans and their fur trade, it is hard to say what the social sphere of the continent would look like today.
