Stitching Together the Fabric of America.

In “A Quilt of a Country”, the author Anna Quindlen explains the complexity of American identity, drawing out parallels between the creation of the quilt and the construction of a nation. Among the many upsetting statements in her essay, the one that stands out the most to me is when Anna writes, “A nation is not an old, smooth running machine, it is a patchwork quilt, and that is what making America has been all about.” This metaphor comparing the nation to a patchwork quilt summarizes the essence of America’s diversity and also the continuous struggle to weave together contrasting threads into a close-knit community. Almost like a quilt, the country is composed of different and unique elements-different
