Anne Frank and Peter Van Pels must stay in a secret annex in Amsterdam to hide from the Nazis along with each of their families (and an irritable dentist). They do not like each other. She is precocious and attention seeking, while he is sullen with remembrance of his life before all of this happened to him. However, as time passes, they begin to fall in love. Peter begins to think of Anne as a mature, young lady whose thoughts are sophisticated and meaningful. While friendships are striking in the annex, there are also frightful events. Sometimes, burglaries take place, and everyone must stay more silent than usual. When this happens, Peter, Mr. Frank, and Peter’s Father re-bolt the annex door to make sure it’s tightly sealed.
