By not venturing into the unknown, one can question if they were close to achieving greatness, or if the other side was just a tremendous disappointment. In Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s book “Gift from the Sea” she writes “And yet it is the unknown with all its disappointments and surprises that is the most enriching.” When reading this I am immediately drawn to when an explorer discovers something and thinks it is extraordinary when in reality it is just ordinary.

Think of a paleontologist finding a new species in a fossil and the unlimited possibilities that could result, and then taking it to the lab and debunking it. Wouldn’t you rather live with the idea that you found the first mermaid than be disappointed that it was just a fish? The unknown
