Sal wanted closure on her mother’s disappearance, while Dennis Nedry and John Hammond both wanted money; however, they were all willing to go to great lengths to achieve their goals.
John Hammond is a dinosaur enthusiast who loves seeing children happy, and wants to make a profit. These factors influenced his novel idea, to make a children’s amusement park focused on dinosaurs. His idea shows Hammonds imagination, but also his lack of caution and overwhelming greed. "And we can never forget the ultimate object of the project in Costa Rica-to make money,’ Hammond said, staring out the windows of the jet” (Crichton). This quote shows which aspect of the park is the most important to him: the monetary …show more content…
Like Hammond, his motivation was financial gain, though his greed was somewhat justified, unlike Hammond’s. Did he go to far? Many would consider freeing dinosaurs “too far”. His plan was to steal dinosaur embryos, and at the same time deactivate all of the dinosaur’s electric fences, which was a gamble, and an ill-fated one. He was a slob, and did not plan his escape right, and wasn’t prepared to steal the embryos in the current stage of the park. Nedry’s greed caused extreme paranoia. Quote "I want to see the damn money" (Crichton) shows this. But Nedry’s greed is not free of consequences. “Nedry fell to the ground and landed on something scaly and cold, it was the animal's foot, and then there was new pain on both sides of his head. The pain grew worse, and as he was lifted to his feet he knew the dinosaur had his head in its jaws, and the horror of that realization was followed by a final wish, that it would all be ended soon.” (Crichton) It proves Nedry’s greed and lack of caution killed him. The quote “He was driving fast, and he'd already been gone five minutes. He should have reached the east dock by now. Had he taken a wrong turn? He didn't think so. He hadn't seen any forks in the road at all.” (Crichton) shows that Nedry, even if the tropical storm did not occur, would still have suffered the same untimely death, needlessly putting the lives of his coworkers in
