1. Alex Horton’s title refers to the day that Julius Caesar was assassinated on the 15th of March. I believe the title of The Ides of March fits his reflection because his friend and fellow soldier Brian Chevalier, “Chevy”, died March 14th in 2007. He was a driver for the first squad who meant a lot to everyone. “Chevy” died from an explosion in battle that later resulted into a “bloody smear on the calendar” for all of them. The title is effective because the death of the fellow soldier was a tragic moment in the lives of the other soldiers who experienced his death which refers to the loss of Julius Caesar.

2. In the reflection, Horton included quotations from other soldiers who knew Brian Chevalier and I believe the quotes showed how much the soldiers thought of “Chevy”.
The quotes included memories of the fallen soldier and all the good times everyone had with him. “Chevy” seemed to bring meaning and joy to the other soldiers how knew him before his death. The quotes show the characteristics of the soldier and how he treated everyone there. I believe the quotations serve as a greater meaning in the reflection to show the loss and pain that the soldier faced.

Another purpose of why Horton may have went there was to witness something that he hasn’t before in a spiritual way. I believe the larger purpose of his reflection was to show that March will always be dedicated to the death of Brian Chevalier no matter what in the lives of the soldiers who knew
