In the century that we live in there is still racism, segregation, and lots of violence. In fact even the president has made racist remarks such as saying that muslims are terrorists and that we should “Build a wall” to block out illegal immigrants from Mexico. Also there has been a lot of segregation of black people and police violence targeting them. Because of all these things happening in America, people fight back by kneeling and putting up their fists in N.F.L games that are broadcast to a large audience to show America that they have freedom and stand against all the hate in America. …show more content…
In the 1968 Olympics, Tommie Smith and John Carlos won gold and bronze for U.S.A. But instead of celebrating their victory they did something that shocked the nationn Olympics and the whole world. As they walked to the platform, they took off their shoes and carried it behind them to protest poverty in America. They wore beads to protest lynching and John Carlos even unzipped his jacket, which was a huge violation of Olympic rules, to represent his buddies working together as black and whites. But the most famous gesture of all was when they both raised their fists during the National Anthem to show solidarity with the civil right
