My one hour long anthropological observation was conducted at North West Childcare Centre, which my mother owns, however I never visit it when children are present. Hence, this was a new and fresh experience for me. This place provides cares for children from ages one to five from 6 am to 6 pm. I observed toddlers aged 1 and a half months to 3 years during snack time precisely at 3:30 pm. I chose this place to observe as it will give me a diverse experience of seeing another perspective of the on goings and behavior of the toddlers and their teachers. Also this time parent usually starts to pour in to pick up their children.
As I entered the class to observe the toddlers, they were busy with their food and the teacher was busy distributing

During snack time, for instance I saw that they needed to eat a certain way and request for extras in a positive manner. Not behaving would result in no snacks. Manners implanted on toddlers at such a young age can be quite beneficial in children learning manners. The children all sat at one table for snack time which was a good environment to observe in as it allowed me to see how all of them would act in each others company. On the table the children still only sat in nuclear groups with whom they related to. Alternatively, when fits broke out the children would apologize to each other themselves, while I was there I saw two girls scratch each other over a toy doll. However, at the end of the day they both ran to each other to apologize, without being told by the teachers or their parents. Showing me …show more content…
Moreover, they came in cars which were of typically of low income families or they came by walking. Yet some of the children had expensive clothes and shoes like Jordan’s. This gave me an idea of the type of people that may be using this day care to facilitate care for their children. However, the different parents were all racially diverse, dismissing my theory of perhaps a low income ethnic group utilized the is daycare more. As previously mentioned my observation took place at snack me and pick up time, thus my time and observations were limited to them merely eating and leaving as parents dropped in. I was unable to see the children interact with each other during free play time and icebreakers the teachers would play with them. I also missed their visit to the library and reading time, which would be more
