The anti social personality disorder is always identified with criminal behavior and substance abuse. Although most of the time this is the case it has been discovered that anti social personality disorder and criminal behavior do share traits and patterns of behavior. According to Little (1997)” Most substance abusers and about half of all alcoholics who enter treatment are also diagnosable as having Antisocial Personality Disorder. In addition, most substance abusers and about half of all alcoholics who enter treatment are diagnosable as having antisocial personality disorder or one of its associated personality disorders” (p.2). Although they can be diagnosed as having a personality disorder, which would most likely be antisocial, they are not diagnosed when they seek treatment. This is also the reason that substance abuse, and antisocial personality disorders are synonymous. This is one of the reasons that providing treatment for someone that has this type of personality disorder is difficult because the system does not allow for diagnosis unless they can provide their own health insurance, therefore treatment cannot be provided because they are not being diagnosed with it, instead a substance abuse issue.
When providing a client with any type of treatment it is crucial that they are complaint and want to participate in the services. This makes it easier to assess and come up with a treatment plan. Behavior linked to antisocial behavior begins with not showing empathy even towards family which human nature shapes us to feel at an early age, are involved in delinquent behavior such as fighting with others to torturing animals.
