William J. Clinton’s speech, “Remarks at Michigan State University”, is focused on the idea that our government is trying to preserve our freedom along with keeping us safe, in addition to those individuals that believe the government is the biggest threat to them is wrong (481-484). William J. Clinton believes that if the United States does not protect its citizens it would be unconstitutional because there is no freedom if an individual must constantly worry about getting killed (482). He then continues on to say that everyone has the right to disagree with the government, but it is not right to harm or threaten those enforcing the laws or anyone in general (482-483). Kennedy’s speech, Day of Affirmation, revolves around the idea of civil disobedience and standing up for what individuals believe in (379-382). While delivering the speech, Kennedy stated that young adults, college students, should fight for against injustice, social change, and oppression within South Africa (379-382). Kennedy believes that the dangers people endure are the fear futility, then of individuals bending their beliefs for needs, timidness, and comfort; however, if the civilians of South Africa submit to the limitations put on them then they will never make progress within their society (381-382).
