Through this quote we can not only see Antigone’s selflessness and pursuit of justice, but also the limits she will go to, even if it comes at the price of her own life. Antigone sees that performing these rituals and abiding by these beliefs as showing her honor, devotion, and love for her brother: she feels she must complete the full ritual for his burial. She represents the ritualistic side of humanity. We see this side of her throughout much of the dialogue of the play. At the same time, Ismene represents the rational and law-abiding nature of the human conscience. This is a common theme throughout the play; a battle between what is moral and what is politically right.
On the other hand we have the viewpoint of Creon, who states his
