Americans today have different thoughts than before during the late 18th to 19th centuries. Today most part of citizens referring to “The Statue of Liberty”, would probably think of it as one or generally an important emblematic figure representing our country under the concepts of freedom, peace and equality. On the other hand, the first generations were made of immigrants, who left their homeland consequently joining ours, and under those circumstances, they came with faith to satisfy their desire for liberty and most particularly, a promise called “The American Dream”. Now present day, we still having pursuit of happiness and opportunities remaining with the same ideals before, but not longer with the same feeling, similarly, we don't see Americans as we used to in the past. But, that is not America. From the first time people have been waiting for a promise which sometimes can also be their nightmare. Consequently, those who come with aspiration in search of success, are the most disappointed when facing reality. In this case, Anzia Yezierska could be one of those dreamers. She explains: “the difference between the first pilgrims and me, was that they expected to make America, build America, create their own world of liberty, but I wanted to find it to be ready made.” (Yezierska 22). Since economic success hit our country, many people have confused the real dream with greed. They came thinking in how much they would earn in America, and how free would be their lives starting in a new place. But they forgot the effort needed to get better jobs and have better lives.
