Throughout the Industrial Revolution, many discoveries and inventions helped the Europeans take over Africa. Many of these items were invented in the 1800s, which is also when Europeans took over African colonization. This proved that the Europeans used all of Africa’s raw materials to create these inventions during the Industrial Revolution. When European imperialism was beginning to spread throughout Africa, Western ideals and Christianity were also spread. The new invention of the steam engine provided “a more constant and forceful source of power than sails on ships or horse-drawn carriages,” (Document C). After the steam engine was invented, it spread European influence throughout the countries that were then later European-controlled.
