1. Physical geographers are interested in globalization of the economy because it gives them an insight into many problems that are otherwise too complex to address. For example, climate change issue can’t be approached without looking at other factors such as social or historical. As mentioned in the book, one characteristic of geography is interrelationship which allows geographers to look at a problem from different prospectives. Also geographers look at the economic globalization since it influences the activity around the world. For example, cutting down trees in tropical regions can be influenced by the demand of wood by other countries.

2. The distance of 1° longitude is different than the distance of 1° longitude and latitude of 45°N because of meridians. The length of one-degree longitude is almost the same as one degree of latitude at the equator. Next, meridians meet at the poles which causes the longitude to decrease poleward, reducing the degree to 0 at the poles.

3. The perihelion refers to the closest distance between the sun and earth, which occurs on January 3rd and it’s about 147,100,000 kilometers away. The tropic of Cancer plays a vital role in the June solstice since on June 21 (date changes every year) the sun is located directly over the tropic of cancer. The circle of illumination divides earth into two equal parts that receive the same amount of light and darkness. Although, there are two points that stand out from the group and are called the polar circles. The polar circles include Artic and Antarctic circle.
