Poetry, as one of the writer’s expression form, plays a significant role throughout our lifetime. When I was a little girl, my grandfather taught me to remember Tang poetry in a strict way. I did not understand why elder usually required their children to recite poetry in China when I was young. Nevertheless, as I growing older and especially after I took the class “Special Topics in Classical Chinese Poetry,” I got the answer. The poem we forcefully memorized in our mind is meaningless without comprehension, but one day, you run into some views or some emotions, you will suddenly understand the poem, and it is such appropriate to your emotion at this moment. Shin yen Chih is a significant theory in poetry category. Chih means where the heart goes, but Chinese character “heart” could interpret in two ways. The first one is the mind, in this explanation, poetry is an expression of one’s mind or idea, and this is the view of moralists. Another is the emotion, in this explanation, poetry is an expression of one’s emotion and desire, and this is the view of individualist. As we know, Chinese is an uninflected language along with advantage and disadvantage, which are not burdened with cases, genders, moods and tenses. It gains in conciseness, but it loses in preciseness. The example of conciseness is “Empty mountain not see people, only hear people talk sounds, reflected light enter deep forest, again shine green moss upon” (Liu, 40) wrote by Wang Wei (699-761), there is no subject in this poem. In both poems, it shows the people’s aspiration in different ways. People can do whatever they want to do in nature; it is different than the political life of the empire because human beings are without freedom in the political life. Different types of poets require different types of poetry styles. Due to their living environment and education is different caused their advantage is different; therefore, people cannot say the one poet is better with a skill than another.
