It is known that active children are healthier in all aspects, including weight, and fitness. Children do better in academics and have fewer mental health issues (Playpower Canada, 2019). The realization that children of this generation might have severe health problems earlier in the future compared to their parents, or even grandparents, is shocking. I think this is an issue that needs to be looked at more and there needs to be an environment where children are encouraged to move even more than they do, it is so important for the development of a generation. I went to school in Falcon Lake, Manitoba, it is a very small community and is a part of the Frontier School Division, they have many schools in remote communities up North, going all the way up to Churchill. I was involved in most of the sporting events growing up and at these events, the school division told us that all students will have a successful education, every school is a safe space for any student to be who they are and learn indigenous perspectives and ways of …show more content…
I always thought it was so neat to have these types of activities available to us, learning about culture through sports was very cool. I did notice going to these schools and staying there for at least 3-days at a time, their diet is a lot different than what I had growing up. Some of the places that we would go to would be more than 12 hours away from Winnipeg, and a lot of people don’t make the trip to get their groceries. Store owners would be the ones to leave the reserves to get groceries to sell, but perishable food is harder to keep for long periods, it is also limited and is even more expensive than foods that have a shelf life. With fresh food being in higher demand and people only having so much money, there is more of a strain for people, and it is easier for them to have processed foods, which leads to unhealthier diets, and less movement also creates a bad mix for overall
