Our ancestors are from Canada and we migrated down to Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado around 1100AD. However, times have changed and I live in what is now western New Mexico but there are various Apache tribes in Oklahoma as well. Once the Mexican American War came to an end and we were defeated in 1886, we were forced onto reservations and this is why there are not Apache tribes in many states anymore. This ties nicely into what I will tell you next. The children in our tribe like to play with each other, and other times, they will play with dolls and toys. They will also compete against each other in footraces. They sometimes hunt or fish, and even do archery! Also if you did not know, at 5 years old, they learn to ride horses.
Now let's move on to our languages. The Apache Indians mostly speak English, but some of us speak Western Apache or Eastern Apache which is actually closely related to the Navajo.
We are now moving on to the jobs of the Apache. The jobs for the women are gathering nuts, wild plants and picking berries. The women were also very good at making baskets and pottery of all sorts. The men in our tribe hunt and fish. The meats we eat are deer, fish and rabbits. The men are known for our fierceness and ability to adapt to the land. We learned to grow corn, raise sheep and cattle. We do have the reputation and it’s true, we are nomads who would “take over” other tribe lands and make it our own. For clothes the women wear jewelry, skirts and long blouses while men wear breechcloths in summer and deerskin in winter. The men also wear ammunition
