Aphrodite awoke on Mount Olympus to the wind rushing over her on a brisk cool morning in the Fall. She walked to the edge of the mountain to gaze down upon the shore and watch the beach slowly crowd with families and friends. Groups of people playing frisbee or catch with baseballs and footballs. Everybody was happy and laughing, a few people were swimming but not many because of the cool temperatures. Everything seemed just fine and Aphrodite had a feeling it was going to be a great day. However, as she started to walk away there was screams of terror and fright as people fled the beach. Aphrodite turned around to see a horrific sight; the water had turned black with a thick oily mass. The entire ocean as far as the eye could see had turned black and ugly. She ran to alert Poseidon at once but it was too late. When she returned to Poseidon the blackness had left. This cycle continued on for days and days as if the ocean was taunting her. Aphrodite began coming down from Mount Olympus every morning to go to the ocean. She would scream while she splashed the ocean in anger. The ocean, the place she had come from, was taunting her. “Why” she creamed, “Why must you terrorize the people of Greece and I with your ugly blackness”! When she arrived on top it was getting late so she decided to rest up and clear her mind. She awoke very early in the morning to shouts, some of joy, some of fear, and some of disbelief. She rushed to the edge of the mountain, feeling her way through the dark. When she arrived and peered over the edge she gasped at what she saw. The blackness was gone and had been replaced by hundreds of tiny glowing lights. The ocean looked as if it had been filled with a thousand tiny blue flames.
