Apollo 8 was the first mission to take humans to the moon and back, and to demonstrate translunar ejection. The main purpose of apollo 8 was to work towards the goal of putting men on the moon and to further educate ourselves about the moon by taking photographs and samples of the moon Apollo 8 took off from Cape Kennedy on December 21st, 1968 at roughly 7:50 am. The crew consisted of Frank Borman Commander, William A. Anders Lunar Module Pilot, and James A. Lovell Jr. Command Module Pilot. About 3 hours after the launch translunar ejection was performed and they were out of Earth’s orbit and onto the moon’s orbit then it went around the moon and proceeded back to Earth and made it home successfully.
