In today’s world security is very important. People are doing whatever they can to make sure that their identity is safe from hackers and or thieves. The same goes for businesses. A business is in constant jeopardy of having their products be stolen from others competitors as well as their employees. Just like the general public there are ways for a company to protect themselves. By conducting background checks on all employees’ not only lets a company know more about their employees but it also gives them the opportunity to turn away individuals that have a ding in their background. When it comes to BBS there are a few different background checks that they can conduct on their employee. The first background check that I would start with if I were in charge at BBS is a criminal background. By conducting criminal background checks on all employees will give BBS an inside look at all their employees and see if any of them have a criminal record. Since BBS has access to highly sensitive material it is imperative to take all necessary precautions to make sure BBS clients information is safe. Arrest records would also be just as important as criminal records. I would also make sure that all BBS employees would be required to take drug test before and during their employment timeframe. Conducting background checks, looking at arrest records and enforcing drug testing are great ways to protect themselves but they can find themselves a legal mess if they ask for information that doesn’t pertain to their business. BBS needs to make sure they are only inquiring information that pertains to their business. Inquiring about someone’s personal information can fall under the EEO laws and as a company BBS can land in some serious legal issues. Under the EEO laws any questions that involve an individual’s sex, race, height, weight, marital status, age, and national origin are strictly prohibited. Even though BBS is putting their employee through test they need to do some additional work to see if all their extra efforts are really working.
BSS could install employee surveillance cameras to monitor employee behavior in the workplace. The company could also closely monitor all incoming and outgoing e-mail transmissions for all employees. A whistleblowing policy could be put in place to encourage all employees to observe the behavior of other employees and or management and to report any suspicious behavior to their managers or a human resource representative. Another great tool that BSS could use is the use of customer surveys or interviews could
