Malcolm writes to Elijah Muhammad and he writes back. His family also sends letters telling him to pray. Malcolm struggles to pray, as he finds prayer very difficult and tiring. During writing his letters Malcolm gets frustrated because he can't express all the things that he wants to tell his friends and family, He's been reading for a while, but he doesn't know a lot of the words in the books. Back at Charlestown Prison a prisoner named Bimbi had encouraged Malcolm to read, and to improve his vocabulary. Malcolm then studies the dictionary and books in the prison library.
