The constitution had finally been created, It was new and improved to make the United states run smoothly and more efficiently. But new and different situations will always arise that will make it necessary to make exceptions and interpret the laws differently, but there will also be situations where the constitution would just have to be followed exactly as it is written. So some affairs will lead to a loose interpretation of the laws but others would lead to a strict interpretation, the Marbury v. Madison and the Gibson v. Ogden case resulted loose interpretation of the constitution whereas the Dartmouth v. Woodward resulted in a strict interpretation.

Woodward the the result of the case was exactly based on what was written in the constitution. John wheelock lost his presidency of dartmouth college by being voted out by the college Board, he wanted the state legislature the pass a law to change the college charter, and other original board of trustees wanted to get back the original record and seal. In this case the supreme court did get involved in state affairs so it could be interpreted as loose but it is strict when deciding the verdict , they followed the constitution .The state government could not pass the law the law that Wheelock wanted that would have resulted in a new charter for the college. .The Dartmouth v. Woodward case displays a strict construction of the constitution because the case went in favor of the college,according to article 1, section 10 clause 1 “states are forbidden to pass any law that changes contract obligation”. The final decision made sure that the state government did not have the power to pass laws laws that changed
