Patriot or Loyalist?
I was sick and tired of being treated with no respect. I watched England walk over us, pick us up and put us down when they please. This is exactly what we Americans were being treated like and a time has come where we wanted something better.We wanted our independence from England.
We were English citizens and proved our loyalty to England during the French & Indian War. Many colonist fought alongside British soldiers to defeat the French and their allies in the French & Indian War. We have done our part to help out our brethren and in return were hoping for the land we were promised ; How did the British reward our loyalty? “No Taxtation without representation” was a common quote from Samuel Adams who so clearly put into words what all of us Americans were thinking. We were good enough to pay taxes for things that don’t even benefit us but we weren’t good enough to have representation in parliament. They claim this was because Parliament is too far away. England never tried to fix this problem or level the playing field for everything to be equal instead they glided over us and that is when we finally got it...they did not care about us.
The Stamp Act, Townshend Acts and Tea Act was also included in this bought of unfair taxtation. All of these things slowly began to build on top of each other and finally exploded when the Tea Act was passed and started to be enforced. We wanted to send a clear message to England that they were violating our rights as Englishman. Patriots in Boston decided to dump the hated tea into Boston harbor during the Boston Tea Party, to demonstrate our anger over British interference. England responded to this but not in the way it was hoped. England acted as if we had misbehaved or broken the
