The first time I read Araby, I was quite confused. I thought nothing about it too much besides the fact that the protagonists infatuation with the girl was a bit creepy. But after reading it for a second time, I was able to comprehend it differently. The title "Araby" appears to be a real place that people go to on occasion. But as the story progresses, to the protagonist, "Araby" symbolized an imaginary world that was filled with romance and cheap luxuries. After promising to buy a gift for Mangan's sister, I noticed his desire to visit there rise and his obsession for the girl expanded.
