They didn’t have any ties to the war going on in Europe. However, in January of 1917, Germany began an attempt to persuade Mexico to attack the United States. Soon after, Britain revealed the telegram to the United States. The information was released to the public on March 1, 1917, and a demand for war spread throughout the United States as a result. On April 6, 1917, the United States finally ran out of patience with Germany and declared war against her. With the addition of the United States to the Allied forces, the war officially became a global effort.
