Archetypes Used In Movies

Archetypes are the use of a “typical example” in a book or movie to be able to connect to the viewer. Archetypes can be found in almost anything, from novels to billboards. The reason archetypes are so heavily used is because one is more likely to enjoy or do something if they can identify with what is being conveyed. An example of this is Alice in Wonderland, Alice is in unknown territory, fighting her way home with mentors, friends, obstacles, and an eventual “bigger picture” lesson learned. The use of archetypes make the audience feel a connection or relation of being able to recognize that the characters also have obstacles and trials; people relate to imperfection. Bravery, selflessness, humility, leadership, patience, character, and integrity are just a handful of the qualities that make a true hero. Although heroes are archetypes found in stories, movies, and novels, they can be found anywhere and everywhere. A hero does not have to be a comic book character or a person of nobility, anyone can be a hero, anyone can be anyone’s hero. Olympian Jackie Joyner-Kersee said, “A true hero is someone who really has made a difference in your life;” in searching for inspiration it is easy to stay close to this idea. A real hero often is not a well-known leader or a fictional character; real heroes are often truly inspiring people who have guided one through life and although they have many faults and flaws they are truly courageous and outstandingly strong. One such hero is Michelle Dominguez. She is a commendable mother, a restless leader, and an exceptional citizen willing to do and be whatever is needed from her for those who depend on
