This really represents her as an artist and person because she was very big on equality. She was very influential in the 60s especially when it came to civil and feminine rights. She recorded a few gospel songs at the age of 14, and when she was 18, she ended up dropping out of high school, and she soon got signed to columbia records by a talent scout (Ward). At columbia records she created her first album called Aretha, (1961), where a lot of her songs made it on the pop and r&b billboards. ( Aretha Franklin Biography) This is a great example of how amazing Aretha's career was because most singers work for years and then get signed and wait several more years to have a hit, but all of this happened for aretha in a few years and a bunch of her songs on her first album were a big hit. Soon after she signed to her new record people started calling her “ queen of soul”, and it stuck. Gaining popularity can help to make your music career more successful. All of this shows how popular she was, how much of a public figure she was from the late 60s on and how much people enjoyed and respected her music, making her career very
