There are many thoughts that come to people's mind when talking about America. Thomas Paine, the author of rights of man shares his views on our diverse nation. Since our country was/still is filled with various religions, political views, languages, and races Paine did not understand how America ran in complete unity. He says “it would appear that the union of such a people was impracticable”. Paine wrote Rights Of Man many years ago and although some of what he says still holds truth today, society has changed too much and many of his characterizations of America do not hold any truth.
One of the biggest issues that would contradict Paine's theories are the political parties amongst our nation. Politics have changed our society and in recent years have divided our country more than ever. The two main political parties have formed separate opinions. It’s these separate opinions that have caused our country to not come together in complete unity like Paine states that we should. When Paine characterized America religion was different. There was not as much of a variety and Christianity gained the most popularity amongst America. Things have changed since and now there is more of an assortment of different religions/ groups. One of the big problems is that as people from different backgrounds continue to immigrate to our diverse nation not everyone is as accepting of each other's beliefs. This has caused lots of damage to our country in the past years. Certain religious groups have been associated with acts of terror which have caused people to become full of fear. Paines says “every difficulty retires, and all the parts are brought into cordial unison” his characterization would not hold truth under these circumstances as our country is not in “cordial
