This proposal establishes the prohibition of any law enforcement agency from using resources to investigate, detain, and/or arrest people in order to help enforce federal immigration laws. This new bill was also designed to enhance trust between law enforcement and residents, while also preventing deportation of large numbers of immigrants. These proposals were highly urged by the Senate because while Trump’s order will ban immigrants from traveling to the United States, it also creates a net that scoops up criminals and innocent families into the same group. As a result of this, it places a significant target on immigrants and also portrays negative stereotypes regarding minority groups, specifically Muslims in this case. The California state Senate introduced these bills to try and alleviate these fears and ensure that immigrant are protected. This is significantly important because when immigration laws have been enforced, immigrants cannot really prevent the negative outcomes of it and they may potentially be deported as a result of it. Since California has a very large immigrant population, the state Senate is fearful that a mass deportation of its immigrants would severely impact the economic stability of California.
