Buy Nothing Day is the day after thanksgiving otherwise known as Black Friday. The question is if people are inclined to give up the good deals on Black Friday to sit at home and hang out? If so what would happen to the economy if the stores on Black Friday were to be closed because of Buy Nothing Day taking it’s place? Protesters of Black Friday stay at home because they think that the environment will be a cleaner place. If these people stay at home while millions of people go Black Friday shopping they believe gas will be saved. Getting all my Christmas presents for my family is also something I do on Black Friday. A lot of money can be saved. Buy Nothing Day does save money for whoever is involved with it, but I will not be participating in it. Yes, there are benefits for the environment if Buy Nothing Day were to become a worldwide movement. A benefit would again be using less gas, so there would be less pollution. Another benefit is that people will be saving their money for something more valuable or for paying bills.
There are both pros and cons of Buy Nothing day. Participating in this day is like participating in something that will not make any difference when helping the environment. There really is not many people who are participating in Buy Nothing Day this is for the reasons I have listed. Most people don’t realize that the day exists. My mom for example asked me what Buy Nothing Day was, so I explained it to her. Not supporting Buy Nothing Day is good for the economy and can possibly help people keep their jobs.
