One of the reasons why a death penalty case is so costly is because most of the people who face death row cannot afford any legal representation, and so the state is then forced to pay all the legal costs of the case as well as the compensations that correspond to the attorneys, the jurors, the court personnel and the specialist brought by the defense (Schwartz, 2016). Another reason why the death penalty should be abolished is because in some cases the person who has been executed ends up being innocent after being put to death. According to the lecture on the death penalty, during the last couple of years, 68% of the death sentences have been revised partly because there have been some errors done at the trial or because the person has been wrongfully convicted by the jury (Schwartz, 2016).
