The Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) provided by the Social Security Administration, displays an increase that the minimum wage is unable to cover. According to City Lab, with each hour worked under minimum wage compared to the cost of living, there is an average gap of twenty dollars needed to suffice. This constant gap is a continuous factor to the poverty of middle class workers under minimum wage. Increasing the minimum wage to ten dollars and ten cents, would help an average of four million Americans out of poverty. The average gap between the hours worked and the cost of living would decrease, as there would be an increase in wages.
