Net Neutrality At its core net neutrality is the principle that internet service providers (ISP) should allow access to all content on the internet, without unfairly blocking or slowing down content of websites or favoring some sources and unfairly providing them with faster content. The White House describes the idea of net neutrality in the following way "An entrepreneur's fledgling company should have the same chance to succeed as established corporations, and that access to a high school student's blog shouldn't be unfairly slowed down to make way for advertisers with more money"( "Net Neutrality: A Free and Open Internet."). In other words a fair and open internet for all is required to keep a level playing field for commerce over the…show more content… Tom Wheeler chairman of the FCC said “After a decade of debate and legal battles, today’s ruling affirms the commission’s ability to enforce the strongest possible internet protections both on fixed and mobile networks that will ensure the internet remains open, now and in the future.”( "Court Backs Rules Treating Internet as Utility, Not Luxury.")The court agreed with the FCC and government’s view that internet is equally as important as phone's, power or any other utility and is not a luxury. The court emphasized the importance of an open internet as an essential communication and information platform in today's day and age. The legal battle over net neutrality is not over. Many internet providers have said that they will challenge any unfavorable rulings.
