Everyone in America agrees that the healthcare system is broken. However, no one can seem to agree upon how to fix it. A large percentage of Americans think the solution to the healthcare crisis is to get rid of the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, which was one of former President Obama’s greatest accomplishments while he was in office and is one of the issues that the new Republican president and Congress cannot seem to work together to change for the better. Although Obamacare was a huge piece of legislation that benefited a portion of the population, a larger portion was negatively impacted by its passage in the form of increased rates, and furthermore, though Republicans have created the American Health Care Act, it …show more content…
In fact, many Americans insurance costs increased. That's not very affordable, now is it? This is due to the fact that companies were required to accept new applicants, regardless, which exposed them to higher risks and because they were covering more people who were higher risk and more likely to make claims, the costs were dispersed among the existing customers. The question now is whether or not companies should have a right to discriminate on the basis of preexisting conditions. The portion of the American Health Care Act, or Trumpcare, that allows companies to deny applicants based on preexisting conditions is one of the most controversial provisions. Columnist Ezra Klein said in his article ‘Health Care Hot Potato’ that a possible solution would be to designate $8 billion for high risk pools, however nearly everybody agrees that that isn’t enough. As it stands, few people really know what the AHCA will actually do, and likewise few people actively support its passage, while the majority just want to pass the ‘hot potato’ so it’s no longer their problem. High risks associated with an all inclusive healthcare system resulted in higher costs for nearly all, and still nobody can find a feasible solution to the healthcare
