Not all the planets in our solar system are giants like Jupiter and Saturn, but most are in the size range of Pluto. Currently, there are 184 known space objects that can be considered planets, and on a list of size Pluto ranks 17th on this list. So in comparison to all of these objects that can be considered planets, Pluto is rather large. People who think Pluto is a dwarf planet do not have all the information because all they knew of are the 8 main planets that are absolutely ginormous. So the name dwarf planet is just a label that shows Pluto is smaller than these other planets. As of now the system used is very sketchy and unreliable, which often leads to the controversy of what are planets and what are dwarf planets. These objects that are beginning to be classified for planet status can be based on factors such as size, orbit around the sun, moons, and orbital patterns. This would create a much more specific definition of what a planet really is. Also, more advanced technology that can get more accurate and precise information on these planets would definitely help determine which categories that they fall
