The American gun control policy has been for a while, a debatable issue. The high cases of gun-related crimes and consequently the assassinations of Rev. Martin Luther King, Rev. Robert Kennedy, and John Kennedy, as well as the wounding of President Brandy and Reagan, resulted in public outcries that triggered the establishment of Gun Control Act of 1968. Both the proponents and opponents of the policy maintain hardline positions resulting in lack of an amicable solution to the ever-intensifying gun control debate. The proponents of the gun control seem to carry the day in their argument that the policy reduces possession and effects of reckless gun use, and minimizes gun-related deaths as opposed to opponents who allude to infringement on …show more content…
These laws may include enacting the twenty-four-hour gun background checking to ensure it is universal together with reinstating the firearm ban (Hemenway 1167). In a proper description, there is a need for provision of guns intended for use only in recommended places and situations, but only after proper regulations, training, and monitoring programs have been put in place. Places like schools, worship centers, entertainment places, the streets, and communities need to be no-go zones with guns or any other involved weapon that may lead to the gun violence. Besides, ensuring proper mental health treatment is among the issues that need consideration in the fight against gun violence and promote gun control (Hemenway 1168). Implementation the Affordable Care Act for instance in the US, ensuring high quality, assessable and proper mental health assessment and treatment is critical. The ownership of guns is rising with the psychological services getting cut down on broad context. In case a mentally ill person owns a gun, they may result in activities that are a danger to themselves and other people. Hence, the argument that gun ownership is a democratic right is flawed.
