One of those advantages is that surgery is avoidable, as well as pain medications and the side effects of them. “If physical therapy helps you eliminate pain or heal from an injury, surgery may not be needed. And even if surgery is required, you may benefit from post-surgery physical therapy” (Ben Gilbert, 2015). Although it is convenient to avoid surgery overall, in certain situations, it is still necessary. However, physical therapy can help tremendously as you are recovering from a surgery. Moving and seeking for rehabilitation right away after the operation can help strengthen you and get you back to the level of activity you were once on. Because of specific conditions, your treatment may be conflicting from other treatments, but the benefits are all still the same (Therapy, 2012). Mary Ann Wilmarth, chief of physical therapy at Harvard University, explained why physical therapy shortly after surgery is so crucial to a full recovery. She said, “Physical therapists are experts in improving mobility and restoring motion. The individualized treatment approach is very important in the early phases of rehabilitation in order to achieve desired functional outcomes and avoid setbacks or complications” (APTA, 2013). If you could do anything to simplify your life after a surgery, it would be to recover quickly without running into any
